Upload and add context

Context helps explain the role the image plays on the page.

Ready for an image

You will get descriptive, concise, and page-aware options, plus a note when empty alt may be more appropriate.

About this tool

Generate three restrained alt-text candidates from an image and its page context. The options favor accessibility and accurate function over keyword stuffing, decorative prose, or invented details.

What you get

A clear, usable result

  • A descriptive option for meaningful images whose visual content matters to the page.
  • A concise option that removes surrounding context already present in nearby text.
  • A context-aware option plus a reminder when an empty alt attribute may be more appropriate.
How to read the result

Descriptive

Use when the image itself communicates information not already available in nearby copy. Keep only details relevant to the page purpose.

Concise

Use when surrounding text already establishes context and the alt only needs to identify the remaining meaningful visual information.

Empty alt

Use alt="" for a purely decorative image so assistive technology can skip it. Do not omit the attribute, which can expose the filename instead.

Limitations and sources
  • The model can misread small text, unfamiliar products, people, places, charts, or context not visible in the image.
  • A human should choose and edit the candidate based on the image’s purpose, not copy every suggestion automatically.
  • Complex diagrams and data visualizations may need a nearby long description in addition to short alt text.
Questions about this tool

Should alt text include SEO keywords?

Only when the wording naturally and accurately describes the image. Repetition added for ranking rather than understanding makes the experience worse.

Should I start with “image of” or “picture of”?

Usually no, because assistive technology already announces an image. Include the medium only when it matters, such as a diagram, screenshot, painting, or photograph.
